All traditional "Susu" mochilas are woven using a single thread crochet technique (or "de un hilo"). This technique yields a lighter, yet stronger mochila, with a tight, fine weave. Designs using this technique can be much more intricate. Their quality is far superior to the much more commonly found 2 threaded weave and only the finest Wayuu weavers are able to weave using this technique. Weaving single thread mochilas takes approximately 3 weeks, as opposed to just 3-4 days for mochilas made with a 2 thread weave. For more information about our mochilas please click here.
Wayuu weavers do not like to repeat mochilas so each is generally one of a kind!
